Puyallup is a small city with a population of 38,670 south of Seattle and just east of Tacoma, Washington. The city is named for the Puyallup Tribe, whose name means “the generous people.” The city was first populated by European settlers in the 1850s, and it became incorporated in 1890. Today, Puyallup is home to the Washington State Fair, and it is a strong agricultural economy thanks to fertile soil in the glacial basin.

Notable attractions in Puyallup include the Arts Downtown Outdoor Gallery, City Farmers’ Market, and Ezra Meeker Mansion, which was home to the city’s first mayor. Because the city is still close to the coast, it has an oceanic climate with cool, wet winters and mild summers.
